Jaco Costa Rica Weather: Best Time to Visit

Sunny beach conditions in Jaco Costa Rica during the dry season

Two Seasons, Not Four

Costa Rica's Pacific coast has two seasons rather than four: a dry season roughly from December through April, and a green (rainy) season from May through November. Jaco's weather follows that pattern closely, and knowing which season you're traveling in shapes what your days will look like.

Dry Season: December Through April

This is Jaco's most popular stretch, with consistent sunshine, warm temperatures in the mid-80s to low-90s Fahrenheit, and minimal rain. It's also the busiest and most expensive time to visit, so villas and tours book up well in advance, especially around the December and Easter holidays.

Green Season: May Through November

Rain in the green season typically arrives as a shorter afternoon or evening shower rather than an all-day washout, leaving mornings clear for beach time and tours. The upside is lusher scenery, thinner crowds, and lower prices on villas, which makes this a good window for travelers who don't mind planning around an afternoon rain shower.

Picking Your Travel Dates

If your priority is guaranteed sunshine and you can book early, aim for dry season. If you'd rather save on cost and don't mind some rain, the shoulder months of May, June, and November tend to offer the best balance of good weather and lighter crowds.
