More Than One Beach to Explore
Jaco Beach itself is a long, walkable stretch of sand right in town, but it's just one of several beaches worth visiting during a stay in the area. A short drive in either direction opens up quieter coves, better surf, and calmer swimming spots.
Playa Hermosa: Surfing
About 15 minutes south of Jaco, Playa Hermosa is one of Costa Rica's best-known beach breaks and hosts international surf competitions. It's a longer, less crowded stretch of sand than Jaco Beach, which also makes it a favorite spot for a quieter beach walk.
Playa Herradura: Calmer Water
Playa Herradura, just north of Jaco near Los Sueños Marina, has calmer, more swimmable water than the open beach breaks nearby, making it a good option for families with younger kids or anyone who prefers a gentler swim over a surf session.
Tortuga Island: A Day Trip Worth Taking
Tortuga Island, reached by boat, has some of the clearest water and best snorkeling in the region, and most day trips combine time on the island with snorkeling stops along the way. It's a popular full-day add-on for guests who want a break from the mainland beaches.
